The Pinot Nero is a relatively uncommon grape variety in Piedmont, but it is vital for the company's oenological tradition. We named this wine after our ancestor Leopoldo Incisa della Rocchetta, a famous ampelographer and oenologist who lived in the 1800s. At the time, Leopoldo Incisa created a vast collection of grape varieties from other regions, experimenting with their cultivation on his estates in the hills of Rocchetta Tanaro. Pinot Nero became his favourite grape variety and the one from which he derived the most excellent satisfaction.
