Description
What type of wine it is
The Chianti Classico Novecento Riserva produced by Dievole is an organic Tuscan red wine. From a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and Colorino, it is aged in large, untoasted French oak barrels. On the nose, it reveals ripe red fruits and spicy notes. In the mouth, it has a full and structured body, freshness, minerality and a velvety tannic texture.
Where it comes from
The grapes destined for this Chianti Classico Riserva are grown on the renowned hills of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the winemaking heart of the province of Siena, Tuscany. The vineyards, located in an area with a historical vocation and enjoying excellent south and south-west exposure, are being converted from spurred cordon to the Guyot system. The particularity of the terroir lies in the silty-clay soils, rich in marl and limestone, and characterised by high stoniness. This distinctive geology imparts a clear and deep minerality to the wine, as well as ensuring a perfect production balance for the vines, essential for obtaining clusters with the highest aromatic and qualitative expression. The name "Novecento" celebrates the nine centuries of history of the Dievole estate, whose documented origins date back to 1090.
How it is produced
The harvest begins in the first days of October. Fermentation takes place in raw concrete tanks at 26-28 °C for two weeks. Maturation occurs in large, untoasted French oak barrels for approximately seventeen months. The wine completes its journey with bottle ageing for at least six months.

The name Dievole first officially appeared in the 11th century, on 10 May 1090, to be precise. In those years, the Icelandic Leif Erikson discovered North America, the Chinese people discovered gunpowder, Bologna opened the world's first university, ,the Normans invaded Rome and Pope Urban II conquered Jerusalem. On that day, we read in the contract of the notary Bellundo that two capons, three loaves and six 'coins of Lucca' of good silver were paid for the annual rent of a vineyard in the divine valley at Dievole, precisely.
In 2012 Dievole began a harmonious and gradual renovation aimed at bringing out the deepest identity of these places. Yesterday's dreams become tomorrow's goals, and ancient certainties are confronted with new ideas. It is an evolution that started from listening to the land and has a common thread: quality.
There are three expressions of Dievole: its vineyards that draw waves on the hillsides, the olive trees that punctuate the landscape with their timeless charm and the warm welcome of the historic Villa - Villa Dievole - an elegant resort where people can experience unforgettable moments.
Petrignano 2019 has been awarded Rosso d'Italia 2023 according to Gambero Rosso. It represents an ambitious project by Dievole, enhancing Sangiovese grapes from individual vineyards in the different nuances of Chianti Classico region. Read more
