Description
What kind of wine it is
Emidio Pepe’s Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo is a still organic rosé made from Montepulciano grapes. It boasts a claret-pink colour and aromas of raspberry, strawberry and pomegranate, combined with a fine floral texture. On the palate, it is vibrant, led by a distinct savouriness and a slight tannic sensation reminiscent of a light red. The fruity close accompanies a persistent finish, perfect for convivial moments.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Torano Nuovo, a prime area for Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo. The vines are grown using row and canopy systems on medium-textured clay soil. These pedoclimatic conditions enhance the Montepulciano grape variety, giving the glass a direct profile. Emidio Pepe's approach ensures a pure expression of the Abruzzo terroir, reflecting the peculiarities of the soil.
How it is produced
Processing follows rigorous artisanal principles. The grapes undergo foot-treading in wooden barrels, ensuring a gentle extraction. The must ferments spontaneously without skins using indigenous yeasts in glass-lined concrete tanks. After ageing in the bottle, the wine preserves the energy of the fruit, resulting in a taut and extremely well-defined rosé.
History and interesting facts
This rosé bears the signature of Emidio Pepe, a pioneer of Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, who has dedicated his life to these native grape varieties since 1964. Among the production unique features, the foot-treading of the grapes in a wooden vat and spontaneous fermentation without skins in vitrified concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts stand out.

Ours is a family run business and all that really counts is in our history, deeply rooted in our land and it is handed down from generation to generation. Still farmers deep inside: while everything changes, grows, evolves with time, our way of taking on the work and the life has remained the same. Today, under the proud gaze of Emidio and Rosa, the main guarantors of this tradition are Sofia and Daniela, together with the young granddaughters Chiara and Elisa. Sofia is the guardian of the oenological knowledge, she follows all the aspects related to the production and the quality, while Daniela follows in first person the administration and financial aspects of the winery. Chiara, Daniela’s daughter, follows the export markets and Elisa, who has just turned eighteen, is starting to support and help the winery world. Read more
