Description
Type of wine
Pèppoli is a Tuscan red wine produced by Marchesi Antinori, a lively and fruity expression of its area of origin. Born from a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah, this Chianti Classico presents itself with a fascinating deep ruby red colour. On the nose, it offers a bouquet rich in red and black fruit, enriched by floral nuances, balsamic notes and delicate hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is vibrant and fresh, with soft tannins that accompany a persistent and markedly savoury finish, making it a structured red of great harmony. This label balances elegance and pleasure, confirming itself as ideal for enhancing traditional dishes and hearty preparations.
Origin
The grapes destined for this wine come from the Pèppoli estate, located in San Casciano Val di Pesa, a short distance from the famous Tignanello Estate, in the heart of Tuscany. The area, historically cultivated since 1379 by the Vallombrosan monks, is characterised by hillside vineyards that enjoy an ideal microclimate and soils capable of enhancing the typicality of the varieties grown. Careful management by Marchesi Antinori aims to safeguard the identity of this suited landscape, allowing the fruit to express the authentic finesse of the local terroir in every vintage.
Production process
The production process of Pèppoli involves separate harvesting and vinification to enhance the characteristics of each variety. After a gentle crushing and de-stemming, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, accompanied by a maceration designed to extract velvety tannins. Subsequently, the wine completes malolactic fermentation and is blended. Ageing lasts for about nine months and takes place mainly in large Slavonian oak barrels, with a small fraction resting in barriques—a fundamental step to give the wine its balanced structure.
History and Interesting Facts
Produced since 1985 on the estate of the same name belonging to the Marchesi Antinori, this wine has deep roots in a history dating back to 1379, when the Vallombrosan monks were already dedicated to the cultivation of these ancient lands. Across its hundred hectares, located near the famous Tignanello Estate, the winery combines medieval charm with the production of a fine organic oil, alongside the renowned Chianti Classico. This long territorial heritage is reflected in the glass, where the centuries-old and authentic soul of Tuscan viticulture and the famous rural landscape is expressed.

The Antinori family’s first encounter with wine dates back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Wine Merchants to make the best use of the family’s country properties in Valdarno, around Florence.
However, it was not until the 16th century that banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori made the wine from his estates famous in Italy and abroad, travelling from Lyons to Flanders, and from Spain to Algiers.
Wine was to remain the family’s passion and main business activity, so much so that in 1898 the "Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori" was created by brothers Lodovico and Piero, the sons of Marchese Niccolò – a direct descendent of that other Niccolò who purchased Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and poured his efforts into publicising Tuscan wines around the world and creating fine quality products. For 26 generations the Antinori family have continued to make history.
In 2023, at the beginning of February, Villa Antinori Toscana IGT 2019 was named the third wine in the world, the only Italian wine, in Wine Specator's Top 10 Values 2022: the list of the 10 wines that according to the American magazine represent world excellence in terms of value for money.
