Description
What type of wine it is
Campo di Camagi Tenuta di Trinoro is a Tuscan red wine of great depth, an authentic expression of the Cabernet Franc grape variety. Falling under the Typical Geographical Indication (IGT) category, this structured wine ferments in steel and ages in oak barrels and concrete. In the glass, it presents a deep ruby colour with complex aromas of currants, tobacco and spices, while on the palate it is full-bodied and balanced with soft tannins. Best enjoyed after decanting, it is ideal when paired with savoury pasta dishes, pork and cheeses.
Where it comes from
This fascinating red wine originates in Tuscany, in the renowned Val d'Orcia area, nestled at the foot of Mount Cetona. The vineyards are located at an altitude varying between 450 and 600 metres above sea level. The terroir is characterised by clay-limestone and gravelly soils, enriched by a surface layer of quartz and limestone, with specific parcels whose roots reach into blue clays. This peculiar geological formation, combined with a high planting density, pushes the root system deep down, ensuring a perfect concentration of aromas and giving the wine an unmistakable territorial signature.
How it is produced
The creation of Campo di Camagi requires careful attention at every stage of processing, starting with the hand-harvesting of the bunches, essential for keeping the quality of the raw material intact. Once in the cellar, winemaking continues with fermentation lasting twelve days in steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a dual ageing process: first maturing for eight months in new French oak barrels, where it acquires roundness and enriches its aromatic structure, and then stabilising for a further eleven months in concrete tanks. This rigorous technical sequence ensures a final result of extreme oenological precision and remarkable longevity.
History and curiosities
Born in the evocative setting of the Val d’Orcia, in the shadow of Mount Cetona, this prestigious wine faithfully embodies the visionary genius of its creator, Andrea Franchetti. Obtained from manual harvesting, the exclusive Cabernet Franc draws strength from a mosaic of vineyards situated between 450 and 600 metres above sea level. Meticulous care for every detail and the desire to preserve the authenticity of the local terroir have given life to a still Red of exceptional calibre, which has become internationally renowned.

The Founder, Andrea Franchetti acquired the property in the 1980s and in the beginning of the 1990s started planting his first vines. The most important lesson he gleaned from a stint in Bordeaux was the crucial role played by terroir. He saw, in the rough woodland that would become Trinoro,clay-limestone and gravel soils reminiscent of those in Saint-Émilion. Only select parcels were suitable for vine-growing, amid a sea of blue clay, and those he cleared by hand and planted in the style of the Bordelais: high-density, meter-by-meter plantings, with cuttings brought over from some of the region’s great estates.
