Description
What type of wine it is
Marisa Cuomo's Costa d’Amalfi Rosso is a still red wine from Campania with a Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC). Produced from a blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso aged in barrels, it presents an intense ruby hue and hints of wild berries, violet, and black pepper. On the palate, it offers a fresh and full-bodied sip, with soft and well-integrated tannins leading to a balanced finish. It is perfect with savoury pasta dishes, pork, and cured meat and cheese boards.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Campania, on the steep terraces of Furore, a landscape overlooking the sea and an example of heroic viticulture. The rows climb up south-facing rocky walls, on soils of dolomitic and limestone rocks. The altitude between one hundred and two hundred and fifty metres and the Mediterranean climate ensure excellent sunshine mitigated by sea breezes. These conditions, combined with low yields, allow for optimal ripening, preserving the aromatic intensity and the vibrant expression of the territory.
How it is produced
Production begins with the harvest of Aglianico and Piedirosso, grown using espalier and atypical pergola systems. After vinification, the wine undergoes ageing for six months in barrels, essential for harmonising the structure. It rests in a cellar carved into the rock, which naturally guarantees ideal temperature and humidity levels. To best appreciate its complexity, decanting for one hour before serving is recommended, in order to enhance the elegance of its structured profile.
History and interesting facts
Founded in 1983, the Marisa Cuomo winery embodies the heroic viticulture of the Amalfi Coast. In Furore, the Aglianico and Piedirosso vineyards defy the steep dolomitic cliffs, caressed by the sun and the sea breeze. Thanks to low yields and ageing in the evocative cellar carved into the rock, the winery combines ancient traditions with modern oenological techniques. This Costa d'Amalfi Rosso releases the authentic energy of an extreme territory, transforming the harshness of nature into an unforgettable sip.
