Description
What kind of wine it is
Gattinara Vigna Molsino by Nervi Conterno is a still red wine that expresses the purest essence of Nebbiolo from Upper Piedmont. In the glass, it offers an aromatic profile where notes of myrtle, lavender and cherry blend with hints of blackcurrant, spices and saline nuances. On the palate, it is juicy and enveloping, characterised by a structured and taut texture, supported by rounded tannins. The flavour profile stands out for its marked minerality that accompanies a long and consistent finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the eponymous Piedmontese municipality, in the historic heart of Valsesia. The grapes come from Vigna Molsino, a genuine natural amphitheatre facing south, which ensures optimal ripening of the bunches. The unique characteristics of the soil give an aromatic profile in which fragrant Mediterranean scents combine with rigorous Alpine notes. Nervi Conterno enhances these vineyards to deliver an authentic territorial imprint, evident in the vibrant tension and freshness that characterise the entire tasting experience.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with fermentation in cement vats using indigenous yeasts, with a proportion of whole bunches to enrich the complexity of the profile. This is followed by a slow maturation of forty-eight months in large barrels, a crucial stage to soften the phenolic matter and consolidate the structure. This period in wood perfectly integrates the aromatic components, offering a wine with an intact texture, lively and persistent, capable of maintaining a clean and extremely elegant flavour profile.

Founded in 1905 by Luigi Nervi, the winery has always been a benchmark for Nebbiolo production in Valsesia, also known as the greenest valley in Italy. The vineyards stretch across spectacular purple-hued slopes, due to the presence of quartz porphyry of volcanic origin, which gives the wines a distinct character compared to those from the Langhe or Roero regions.
One of the estate’s most iconic crus is Vigna Molsino, a natural amphitheater facing south, cradling the vines and allowing for slow, complete ripening. In this unique setting, the winery experienced a major turning point in 2018 with the arrival of Roberto Conterno—already renowned for his Barolo production at the Giacomo Conterno winery in Monforte d’Alba. With the acquisition of Nervi and its 27 hectares of vineyards, Conterno chose to invest in the potential of Nebbiolo from Upper Piedmont, helping to elevate the prestige of Gattinara DOCG on an international scale.
