Description
What kind of wine it is
Barbera d’Alba Cascina Fontana is a still red wine made exclusively from Barbera grapes. Its sensory profile opens with an intense ruby red colour, a prelude to a rich bouquet evoking elegant aromas of red roses, cherry jam and wild berries, enriched by delicate sweet spices and mineral notes of graphite. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied and robust character, supported by a vibrant freshness and savouriness. The high natural acidity, a hallmark of this grape variety, ensures the wine has an ageing potential of over ten years, during which it develops increasing roundness and greater structural complexity.
Where it comes from
The origin of this wine lies in the renowned locality of Perno, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, situated in the heart of the Langhe and within the famous Barolo production area. This territory deeply connects Barbera d’Alba to its chosen hills, where it has historically represented the everyday wine, rooted in the local rural culture. The soil and microclimate of this specific area give the wine a straightforward and rigorous style, with a pronounced structure. At the table, it pairs ideally with cured meat platters, traditional first courses, roast meats and mature cheeses. It is recommended to decant for one hour to allow the aromatic profile to express itself with natural elegance.
How it is produced
Production is characterised by an approach aimed at preserving the integrity of the fruit, through a process that involves no filtration or fining agents, which may result in slight natural sediments. After fermentation, the wine is skilfully matured in used oak barrels and concrete vats: a combination that allows the natural acidic verve of the grape to be softened without overpowering its varietal aromas. The process concludes with ageing for at least six months in the bottle before release.
History and Curiosities
Long regarded as the farmer's wine, the Barbera d’Alba DOC from Cascina Fontana embodies the authentic spirit of the Langhe. Produced in Perno di Monforte d’Alba in the 2024 vintage, this unfiltered and unfined label boasts a lively and robust character. Maturation in used barriques and cement, combined with six months of bottle ageing, ensures an ageing potential of over ten years. Over time, this straightforward red transforms its typical vibrant acidity into an extremely elegant, rounded and complex profile.

This is an area of rare majestic beauty, with vine-covered hills and castle-topped communities looking across to each other over steep, plunging valleys.
Here, in our beautiful land dedicated to the production of wine, my family have grown grapes and produced wines for at least six generations.
Today I continue to grow the traditional grapes of Le Langhe, dolcetto, barbera and nebbiolo, to produce a range of classic and prestigious wines that are the purest expression of the land from which they are born, Le Langhe. Read more
