Description
Wine style
Conero Sassi Neri Riserva by Fattoria Le Terrazze is a still red wine from the Marche region with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) status that faithfully interprets the character of the Montepulciano grape variety. Structured and complex in style, it stands out for its intense and persistent aromatic profile, with silky tannins that balance a full-bodied palate. Its structure is defined by fermentation in stainless steel followed by long maturation in French oak barrels. This solid harmony makes it ideal for pairing with rich dishes and slow-cooked preparations.
Origin
This wine from the Marche originates in Numana, in the heart of the Conero Riserva area. The vineyards are located just one kilometre from the Adriatic coast, where the proximity to the sea ensures a mild and breezy climate. These conditions favour slow and steady ripening of the grapes, precisely defining their aromatic profile. The vines take root in Pliocene soils ranging from calcareous-clay marls to calcareous-sandy formations. This soil variability gives the wine a clear territorial imprint, supporting its complex gustatory structure.
How it is produced
Production begins with a careful selection of the bunches, harvested at perfect ripeness. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with maceration on the skins aimed at extracting colour intensity and phenolic components. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in small French oak barrels for a period of eighteen to twenty-four months, enriching its aromatic spectrum. The ageing process concludes with at least six months of bottle rest, a fundamental step to reach the ideal balance and stabilise the structure.
History and curious facts
Founded in 1882, Fattoria Le Terrazze produces the famous Conero Riserva DOCG Sassi Neri in the charming vineyards of Numana, situated just one kilometre from the Adriatic coast. First produced in 1988 and shaped by the oenologist Federico Curtaz, this wine derives its elegance from ancient Pliocene soils. Its patient ageing is celebrated on the label by a quote from the mathematician Gauss, a refined tribute to the time necessary to achieve superior quality, awarded 97 Luca Maroni points and 5 Grappoli Bibenda.
