Description

What type of wine it is

The Nine Yards Chardonnay by Jordan Wine Estate is a still white wine from Stellenbosch, South Africa, produced with 100% Chardonnay grapes. This wine boasts a rich, elegant, and structured profile, capable of expressing the variety's potential at its best thanks to fermentation and subsequent ageing in barrels. On the palate, it is broad, creamy, and textured, distinguished by a sip that blends smoothness with a clear mineral character. Perfect as a structured food wine, it makes a high-impact entry to the table, balancing aromatic power and freshness; ideal for those seeking a complex yet lithe white, far from the ordinary.

Where it comes from

This white wine of excellence originates in the heart of South Africa, more precisely in Stellenbosch, a prestigious sub-region situated within the Western Cape. The Chardonnay vineyards, with vines approximately thirty-three years old, sit on decomposed granite soils of the Hutton and Glenrosa types. This geological matrix imparts a fine and vibrant sapidity to the wine. The area benefits from a temperate Mediterranean climate, constantly cooled by ocean breezes. The parcels, mainly south and east-facing at altitudes between 250 and 280 metres, benefit from morning mists that mitigate seasonal heat, encouraging optimal phenolic ripeness that preserves the grapes' natural acidic backbone.

How it is produced

The production of this Chardonnay follows a meticulous process aimed at enhancing structure and aromatic range. In the cellar, vinification begins with de-stemming and a gentle pressing of the grapes. The subsequent alcoholic fermentation takes place entirely in French oak barrels, some of which are first-fill, using a mixed process that integrates selected yeasts with spontaneous fermentation conducted by indigenous yeasts. Once the fermentation phase is complete, the wine undergoes a period of ageing on the lees for approximately 9-10 months in the same barrels. During this period, the regular stirring of the fine lees imparts greater creaminess, volume, and profound structural complexity to the wine, defining its definitive stylistic character.
