Description
Wine style
Kettmeir's Gewürztraminer is an aromatic still white wine with a controlled designation of origin, vinified in stainless steel and aged on the lees, which clearly expresses the character of Alto Adige. It presents itself in the glass with a bright straw-yellow colour, revealing an intense bouquet dominated by notes of rose petals, lychees, tropical fruit and sweet spices. On the palate, it offers an energetic mouthfeel, where the pronounced savouriness and natural freshness balance the slight residual sugar. This solid structure accompanies the tasting towards a long and persistent finish, enhancing the rich varietal character.
Origin
The grapes are grown in Alto Adige, cultivated in mid-hillside vineyards between Caldaro, Termeno and Terlano. The vines grow between three hundred and five hundred metres above sea level, trellised using the Guyot system. The roots reach deep into clay and limestone soils, rich in stony fragments and organic matter. This specific geological composition is crucial for the quality of the harvest: it defines the clarity of the olfactory profile and guarantees the wine its unmistakable savoury character, balancing its intensity.
Winemaking
Production begins in autumn with hand-harvesting, aimed at selecting only the bunches that have reached optimal ripeness. In the cellar, a brief cold maceration on the skins is carried out, an essential technical step to precisely extract the primary aromatic compounds of the Gewürztraminer. Subsequent fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The process concludes with targeted ageing on the lees before bottling, a choice that adds structure to the palate and keeps the flavour profile fresh and clean.

Tradition as a value to be handed down, and progress as a vision to be perpetuated. Innovators, but with the awareness that one must not abandon the heritage of tradition, preserved as a fundamental bond with the land and one's own history.
One example is the architecture of the Kettmeir winery, preserved intact since the Second World War as a precious testimony to its past. And it is in the historic wine cellar, where both the wines rest in barrels and the classic method sparkling wines on ancient pupitres, that part of Kettmeir's success is realised under the watchful eye of oenologist Josef Romen.
The other place is the vineyards, stretching from Kaltern to the Ebnicherhof to Salurn, where Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Moscato rosa and many other grape varieties grow, cultivated with absolute care, respecting all their varietal peculiarities. In every grape, the history of this land. In every drop, the know-how of its people. In every bubble, a way of being. Read more
