Description
Type of wine
The Valle d'Aosta Cornalin DOC from Rosset Terroir is a red wine, fermented in steel and aged in oak barrels, which accurately expresses the essence of the mountain territory. Produced from Cornalin grapes, it presents in the glass with a clear ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals sharp aromas of plum and cherry, enhanced by a spiciness reminiscent of cloves. On the palate, it is smooth-flowing, with a fruity and pleasantly rustic sip, supported by light tannins that accompany the drink towards a finish of marked freshness.
Origin
This expression from Valle d'Aosta originates in the municipality of Quart, from high-altitude vineyards situated at 750 metres above sea level. The vines, approximately twenty years old, root into soils of glacial origin with a sandy, silty, and stony composition, ideal for ensuring optimal drainage. The harsh Alpine climate, in the context of true heroic viticulture, ensures a clear expression of the fruit, preserving its fragrance and absolute aromatic purity.
Production
The grapes, harvested manually, undergo cold maceration on the skins to encourage aromatic extraction. Fermentation takes place in steel, followed by an ageing phase within French oak barrels, a fundamental step to harmonise the wine's structure. Following decanting, it is best expressed served at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C and is ideal paired with mushroom risottos, savoury pork-based dishes, and selections of cheeses.

The story began to take shape in 2001, with the planting of the first three hectares of vineyard in the municipality of Saint-Christophe, just outside Aosta. The first varieties grown were Chardonnay, Syrah, and the native Cornalin. In just a few years, the estate expanded its vineyard surface and selected new, highly suited plots, where Muscat Blanc, Pinot Gris, and additional parcels of Syrah were also introduced.
A turning point came in 2017, when Rosset Terroir ventured beyond 900 meters above sea level, in the village of Villeneuve. On particularly steep slopes, in a context of heroic viticulture, the cultivation of the traditional Petite Arvine grape variety comes to life, from which the winery’s flagship wine is born: the Sopraquota 900, awarded in 2021 as Italy’s Best White Wine by Gambero Rosso ‘s Vini d’Italia guide and included in James Suckling’s Top 100 World Wines in 2024.
Today, Rosset Terroir manages around 13 hectares of vineyards and produces approximately 50,000 bottles per year, carefully selecting the region’s most promising plots and combining the expertise of seasoned technicians with modern, functional facilities. Read more
