Description

What type of wine it is

Susu Bentu Luna is a still red wine that represents an authentic expression of Sardinia. Made from 100% Cannonau grapes, it falls under the prestigious Cannonau di Sardegna designation. This wine reveals an intense ruby red colour and a bouquet of fragrant red and dark fruits, enriched by clear spicy notes, hints of pepper and balsamic undertones of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is fresh and savoury, with a well-calibrated structure and a long finish that echoes the olfactory sensations, outlining a fine, aromatic and balanced profile.

Where it comes from

The grapes destined for this wine come from the vineyards of Neoneli, located in the heart of Sardinia, within the ancient Judicate of Arborea. The area's Mediterranean climate is decisive in the development of the characteristics of the Cannonau grapes. This specific area boasts a deep-rooted viticultural vocation linked to local rural traditions. The unique geographical and environmental conditions forge the wine's identity, giving the glass that unmistakable savoury drive which represents its most authentic territorial signature.

How it is produced

The production of Susu begins with slow and careful destemming, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. In this phase, whole berries and bunches are used, and maceration lasts for about three weeks with light manual punching down. Subsequently, the wine is aged for eight months in second-passage oak barrels. During this period, malolactic fermentation takes place and a delicate bâtonnage is carried out, a technique that favours the perfect integration of the elements, completing the ageing process with a touch of elegance.

History and trivia

Born in the heart of the ancient Judicate of Arborea, Susu is the result of the Moratti family's project to enhance authentic Sardinian rural traditions. This artisanal creation comes to life in the historic vineyards of Neoneli, expressing the pure soul of the territory. As a testament to its prestige, the 2021 vintage earned 92 James Suckling points, establishing its excellence on an international level. Finally, it represents an absolute rarity in the island's oenological landscape, boasting an extremely limited production restricted to only 1,500 bottles per year.

In the heart of the ancient Giudicato di Arborea, among the hills of Barigadu and Mandrolisei, small vineyards of no more than one hectare each are preserved, testimony to the Sardinian rural soul that, in a timeless symbiotic relationship, respects woodland and granite landscapes that are among the wildest on the island. The sandy, granite decaying soils are still worked with oxen and are home to typical varieties such as bovale, cannonau and other indigenous Sardinian varieties.

The Bentu Luna winery, a new project of the Moratti family, is located in Neoneli, a village of pre-Nuragic origin modelled on the typical red trachyte, rich in ancestral memories such as the tenores choirs and the carnival animated by the soc Corriolos masks and bonfires in the square. A strategic choice, therefore, aimed at highlighting unexplored and authentic parts of the rural tradition.
