Description
What type of wine it is
Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is a structured red wine that fully expresses the character of Sangiovese grown in Tuscan soil. This prestigious Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its full body and fine, velvety tannins, accompanied by a well-integrated freshness. On the palate, a marked mineral vein emerges, leading towards a long and persistent finish, characterised by light citrus notes and typical irony tones. Vinified in steel and aged in oak barrels, it presents a warm and balanced style that makes it ideal for enhancing intense dishes, creating harmonious pairings with red meats, game, and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the estate's vineyards located on the southern slope of Montalcino, in the Sant’Angelo in Colle area. The rows extend between 150 and 450 metres in altitude and include old vines over fifty years old, cultivated through sustainable agricultural practices and protected by dense woods. This microclimate ensures regular ripening, defining an intense aromatic profile. In the glass, the Sangiovese releases hints of dark berries and raspberry, enriched by nuances of cherry, liquorice, dark tobacco, and recognisable smoky notes, maintaining an excellent balance between structure and freshness.
How it is produced
The process begins with a careful manual harvest, which allows for the selection of clusters before vinification. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts and the submerged cap technique, at a controlled temperature to encourage a balanced extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes a slow rest of approximately thirty months in large French oak barrels. Subsequent and prolonged bottle ageing completes the final evolution, giving the wine great complexity and a remarkable ageing potential.
