Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo from Cascina Fontana is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, with a structured profile and great concentration. Its aromatic bouquet blends scents of ripe fruit and flowers with hints of liquorice, orange zest and menthol. On the palate, it displays balanced acidity and silky tannins, accompanied by notes of cherries in spirit and mineral nuances leading to a very long finish. This austere wine enhances rich meat-based dishes, pairing perfectly with braised meats, game and mature cheeses, and also reveals surprising affinities with dark chocolate.
Where it comes from
It originates in the heart of the Langhe, from steep hillside vineyards owned by the family. The grapes come from three plots located in two renowned villages: in Castiglione Falletto are the Villero vineyards, in the eponymous Cru, and Valletti, in the Mariondino Cru, which give the final blend depth, structure and elegance. In La Morra, the Gallinotto vineyard grows within the Giachini Cru, essential for bringing freshness, fruit and minerality. The balanced assemblage of these different territorial expressions ensures the wine has remarkable ageing potential.
How it is produced
The grapes are destemmed, pressed and vinified separately for each vineyard. After fermentation with extended maceration on the skins, the wines are blended. To preserve its natural character, the liquid undergoes neither filtration nor clarification. Maturation takes place for two years in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a year resting in concrete vats. Finally, the wine is refined for at least six months in bottle before release, developing a significant tannic structure and a solid foundation to evolve in complexity for decades.
History and Curiosities
The 2022 Barolo from Cascina Fontana expresses the purest identity of the Langhe through the separate vinification of the prestigious crus of Castiglione Falletto and La Morra. This noble Nebbiolo, unfiltered and unfined, preserves the integrity of the terroir thanks to a long maceration on the skins. Ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels and concrete vats forges its structure, austere and elegant. A profound wine with a formidable ageing potential, it rewards patience by evolving magnificently for decades.

Here, in our beautiful land dedicated to the production of wine, my family have grown grapes and produced wines for at least six generations.
Today I continue to grow the traditional grapes of Le Langhe, dolcetto, barbera and nebbiolo, to produce a range of classic and prestigious wines that are the purest expression of the land from which they are born, Le Langhe. Read more
