Description
What style of wine is it
Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Ornellaia is a red wine, a refined expression of the Tuscan territory. The result of a harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it is distinguished by its deep ruby colour. The bouquet is intense, with notes of blueberry and blackberry that intertwine with hints of toasted almond, cocoa and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wine is broad and velvety, with a structure that evolves elegantly towards a persistent and savoury finish, supported by deliciously integrated silky tannins, thanks to ageing in oak barrels.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Bolgheri, near Castagneto Carducci. Mild winters and hot summers favour a gradual ripening of the grapes and optimal phenolic concentration.
How it is produced
Production involves a manual harvest with double sorting and rigorous optical selection to ensure the integrity of the fruit. Each variety is vinified separately in stainless steel or concrete tanks. After maceration for about two weeks, malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, both new and second-fill. The wine ages in barrels for eighteen months, during which the final blend is defined. A further rest in the bottle of twelve months completes the process, sealing the gustatory harmony.
History and curiosities
For the 2023 vintage, Ornellaia dedicates its celebrated Bolgheri Rosso Superiore to the theme ‘Vitality’. This eighteenth edition of the Vendemmia d’Artista is enhanced by the creative flair of Marina Abramović, who signs the magnificent limited-edition bottle included in every case of six.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981, in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Tuscany. From the outset, the mission was to produce outstanding wines. Since then passion and dedication, coupled with a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate, have brought the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's prestigious labels great success and recognition as one of the most important wineries in the world.
Vision
A little more than 20 years ago, a revelation: the future of Italian viticulture had to take a new enological path, in search of absolute quality. To achieve this goal, the proper place, proper time, and best people were needed. This led to the idea of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience by its "artists," who seek, with every vintage, a new masterpiece.
Philosophy
Production limited to the course of the year, harvesting by hand only after full ripeness, individual vinification for each vineyard, respect for a unique and precious terroir. These are just some of the choices made by Ornellaia, in a philosophy that has privileged quality from the very beginning. Thanks to women and men who put their arms, soul, head and heart into their work, all year round. And the results can be seen, but above all tasted... Read more
